Gibson Dominates Anheliger in UFC Edmonton Bantamweight Bout
In a one-sided bantamweight clash at UFC Edmonton, Cody Gibson overwhelmed Canadian fighter Chad Anheliger to secure a unanimous decision victory. The fight, which took place on Saturday night, showcased Gibson’s superior grappling and ground control.
Gibson, known as “The Renegade,” set the tone early in the first round. He scored a takedown and threatened Anheliger with multiple submission attempts, including an arm-triangle choke.
”I knew I had to pressure him from the start,” Gibson said after the fight. “My game plan was to use my wrestling and keep him guessing on the ground.”
The second round saw Gibson dominate even further. He quickly took Anheliger down and maintained top position for most of the round. Gibson landed significant ground strikes, opening a cut on Anheliger’s forehead with a powerful elbow.
Anheliger showed heart in the final round, coming out aggressively and landing a few clean shots. However, Gibson’s wrestling proved too much. He secured another takedown and controlled the remainder of the fight.
The judges scored the bout 30-27, 30-27, and 30-26 in favor of Gibson. This win improves his UFC record to 3-5, while Anheliger drops to 2-3 in the promotion.
The bout was part of the early prelims for UFC Edmonton, which featured several matchups between Canadian fighters and international opponents.
