Josh Addo-Carr Bids Emotional Farewell to Bulldogs After Contract Termination
In a heartfelt Instagram post, NRL star Josh Addo-Carr expressed gratitude to Canterbury Bulldogs fans and teammates following his contract termination on Thursday night. The popular winger’s departure comes after a failed drug test and alleged lack of transparency with the club.
Addo-Carr, who joined the Bulldogs in 2022, reflected on his three-year stint with the team. “I wanted to help bring back the club to the powerhouse it once was,” he wrote, adding that he’s proud of the team’s turnaround during his tenure.
The Bulldogs’ decision to release Addo-Carr stems from a September incident where he tested positive for cocaine in a roadside drug test. The club cited “serious breaches of Josh’s contractual obligations” as the reason for his dismissal.
Despite the circumstances of his departure, Addo-Carr remained positive in his message. “The love and support you’ve shown me since I arrived at Belmore has always been amazing,” he told fans.
The club acknowledged Addo-Carr’s contributions in a statement, saying, “Josh has been a significant part of our club over the past three seasons.” However, they emphasized the importance of maintaining clear standards and values.
As Addo-Carr looks to the future, reports suggest the Dragons and Eels are frontrunners to sign him for the 2025 season and beyond. Meanwhile, his Instagram post has garnered support from fellow NRL players, including Bulldogs captain Stephen Crichton.
