Manchester United, Chelsea share points in a dramatic draw
A late equalizer from Chelsea’s Moisés Caicedo canceled out Bruno Fernandes’ penalty as Manchester United and Chelsea played to a 1-1 draw in a tension-filled Premier League match at Old Trafford.
The game sprung to life in the 70th minute when Bruno Fernandes broke the deadlock from the penalty spot, sending a precise shot to the bottom left corner. The penalty was awarded after Chelsea goalkeeper Robert Sánchez fouled Rasmus Højlund in the box.
Chelsea responded with determination and found their reward in the 74th minute. Moisés Caicedo struck from the center of the box following a corner kick, beating the United defense to level the score.
The match was marked by intense physical play, with referees issuing seven yellow cards throughout the contest. Both Casemiro and Marcus Rashford were among those cautioned for Manchester United, while Nicolas Jackson received a booking for Chelsea.
Earlier in the match, United came close to opening the scoring when Marcus Rashford’s right-footed effort struck the crossbar just before halftime. Chelsea also threatened in the first half, with Noni Madueke hitting the post with a header from close range.
The final minutes saw both teams pressing for a winner. United’s Bruno Fernandes missed a late opportunity, sending his shot from the center of the box too high, while Chelsea’s Cole Palmer had an attempt blocked in stoppage time.
Both managers made strategic substitutions in the second half, with United bringing on Amad Diallo and Victor Lindelöf, while Chelsea introduced Mykhailo Mudryk and Enzo Fernández to freshen their attack.
The draw keeps both teams in close contention in the Premier League standings, with neither side able to gain a crucial advantage over their rivals in this midweek fixture.
