Powell's 23 Points Lead Clippers Past Warriors in Thrilling Finish

INGLEWOOD, Calif. — Norman Powell scored 23 points as the Los Angeles Clippers held off the Golden State Warriors 102-99 on Monday night, securing their fifth straight home victory. The intense matchup kept fans on the edge of their seats until the final buzzer.

The Clippers, who had lost their first four games at their new arena, were bolstered by James Harden’s 12 points and 16 assists, along with Ivica Zubac’s 17 rebounds. The Warriors, led by Stephen Curry’s 26 points and Andrew Wiggins’ 22, fought hard but ultimately fell short, ending their three-game winning streak.

The Warriors took an early lead with a 3-pointer by Lindy Waters III but struggled to maintain it. The Clippers, playing their second game in as many nights, felt the pressure in the closing seconds. However, Curry missed a potential tying 3-pointer, and Gary Payton II also missed the Warriors’ final shot, securing the Clippers’ victory.

Warriors coach Steve Kerr revealed before the game that he was unaware Curry was on the injury list. “Protocol,” he said. Curry, who had been dealing with left knee bursitis, had a slow start with only eight points in the first half, going 2 of 7 from 3-point range. He improved in the third quarter, hitting three of his team’s six 3-pointers, but the Warriors still trailed 75-72 going into the fourth.

The Clippers benefited from strong bench performances, with their reserves outscoring Golden State’s 45-28. This proved crucial on a night when three Clippers starters were held to single digits.

Powell, who briefly left the game in the first half due to left hamstring soreness, returned before halftime and hit three critical 3-pointers in the fourth quarter to keep the Clippers ahead.

The Warriors were held to 36% from 3-point range, with Curry going 6 of 15.

Next, the Warriors will host Atlanta on Wednesday, while the Clippers will host Orlando.
