UFC Star Max Holloway Announces Move to Lightweight Division

Former UFC featherweight champion Max Holloway has revealed his plans to leave the 145-pound division and move up to lightweight. The announcement, made on his YouTube channel, marks a significant shift in the career of the 32-year-old fighter.

”This is like my phoenix moment,” Holloway said. “We’re on to bigger, better stuff and walking through a new door.”

Holloway’s decision comes after a knockout loss to featherweight champion Ilia Topuria. However, his impressive victory over Justin Gaethje at UFC 300 showcased his potential in the lightweight division.

The Hawaiian fighter cited age and weight-cutting challenges as key factors in his decision. “Your boy is only getting older,” he explained. “It takes a toll cutting weight, period.”

Holloway’s move opens up new opportunities for exciting matchups. Potential opponents include Dustin Poirier, who has previously defeated Holloway, and Michael Chandler.

The shift to lightweight allows Holloway to avoid grueling weight cuts. “I had to give up ramen for my ‘45 camps,” he joked. “I don’t ever want to give up ramen again.”

While leaving the door slightly open for a return to featherweight, Holloway emphasized his commitment to the 155-pound division. “I can honestly look you guys in the eye and tell you guys I’m probably not ever going back to ‘45,” he stated.

Holloway’s move to lightweight adds another high-profile name to an already stacked division. Fight fans eagerly await his next opponent announcement.
